About CEN files
The .CEN file extension typically serves one of three distinct functions, often causing confusion for users trying to open them. Most commonly, it is a configuration or manifest file used by Waves Central, the management platform for installing and licensing Waves Audio plugins. These files, often structured internally as JSON data, dictate how plugins are deployed on your system. While essential for software functionality, they are not designed for direct user interaction; modifying them can corrupt your audio setup or break license validation.
Alternatively, gamers may encounter .CEN files as combat encounter logs generated by Swords of Legends Online, containing statistical data about in-game performance. A third variation exists within the window manufacturing industry (specifically WH Okna software), where the file acts as a zlib-compressed price list ('Cennik' is Polish for 'Price List').
A major drawback of .CEN files is their proprietary or obscure nature - standard text editors often fail to identify the encoding, or the data is compressed. To inspect the contents without risking file corruption, the best approach is to convert the file to a standard TXT or JSON format. For game logs, converting to CSV or Excel is ideal for data analysis, while configuration files should generally be backed up before any conversion or viewing attempt.
Convert.Guru analyzes your CEN file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert CEN file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use Waves Central or similar software from the "Software Configuration & Logs" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to CEN, try Waves Central or another comparable tool in the "Software Configuration & Logs" category.
The CEN Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CEN converter.
