Convert CDDX to another file type
To convert CDDX diagrams to another format, you need Circuit Diagram or other Cad software.
Convert a file to CDDX
To convert other file formats to the "Electronic Schematic Document" file type, you need software like Circuit Diagram or a similar tool.
About CDDX files
A .CDDX file is an electronic schematic container used primarily by the open-source Circuit Diagram application. In a secondary context, it is also utilized as a custom page set or popup file by Tobii Dynavox Communicator 5, an assistive communication software. For engineers and hobbyists, the .CDDX file stores everything needed to render a circuit - including component layouts, netlist-style wire connections, and metadata - packaged inside an Open Packaging Conventions (OPC) ZIP archive.
To natively view or edit these schematics, you must use the Windows-based Circuit Diagram software or its cross-platform Command-Line Interface (CLI). Users frequently encounter deep frustrations with the .CDDX format because it is highly specialized and completely opaque to external software. It is not supported by standard image viewers, mobile devices, or common documentation platforms. Trying to share a raw .CDDX file with a non-technical stakeholder almost always results in a "Windows cannot open this file" error, forcing a hard stop in the collaboration workflow.
To resolve these compatibility dead ends, the best conversion targets are scalable vector graphics (SVG) for lossless web embedding, PNG for quick image sharing, or PDF for formal technical documentation. Be aware that converting the schematic to a flat image format strips out all functional data - you will permanently lose the interactive netlists, underlying simulation parameters, and the ability to edit the circuit later.
This format is notoriously difficult for third-party tools to process because properly rendering the schematic requires access to the exact local component libraries referenced in the file's internal XML. Standard online converters lack these proprietary rendering engines and will fail to output a valid image. However, just drag and drop your file onto convert.guru to instantly identify the underlying format. Our system will safely inspect the OPC architecture, allowing you to view the raw internal XML content, extract structural data, and convert it whenever our analysis detects a supported fallback format.
Convert.Guru analyzes your CDDX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert CDDX file to DWG, DXF, DGN, RVT, RFA, SKP, 3DM, STEP, IGES, SAT, X_T or X_B, you can use Circuit Diagram or similar software from the "Electronic Circuit Design File" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert SLDASM, DGN, PRT, IAM, X_B, CATPRODUCT, SLDPRT, RVT, ASM, DWG, CATPART or DXF files to CDDX, try Circuit Diagram or another comparable tool in the "Electronic Circuit Design File" category.
The CDDX Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CDDX converter.
