About CDB files

The .CDB file extension generally stands for Constant Database, but it is an extremely fragmented format utilized by dozens of completely unrelated software applications. Common use cases range from SQLite-based databases in YGOPro card game simulators and Microsoft Cognitive Toolkit (CNTK) machine learning datasets, to XML-based Conceptual Data Models in SAP PowerDesigner. It is also historically used for legacy contact databases by Dymo CardScan, Nokia Symbian phonebooks, and Microsoft Pocket Access.

The primary disadvantage of a .CDB file is its total lack of standardization. Because developers use it as a generic "database" container extension, your operating system has no idea how to open it natively. Many .CDB files are locked behind proprietary, expensive software (like SAP PowerDesigner) or abandoned legacy ecosystems (like Windows CE). Without the original software, the data is often inaccessible, unreadable, or trapped in undocumented binary structures.

When users need to convert this file, they typically want to extract the trapped tabular data. If the file is a contact database, the ideal target format is CSV or VCF for seamless importing into modern address books. For SQLite-based simulators or Microsoft machine learning files, exporting the schema as a SQL dump or extracting tables to CSV is the standard workaround.

This file format is notoriously difficult to open or convert blindly because the extension reveals almost nothing about the internal data structure. Often, only the original software can properly parse the relationships and export the data. Our platform inspects the internal file signature - whether it is raw SQLite, embedded XML, or compressed ZIP data - to determine if viewing or data extraction is still possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your CDB file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted CBD, WBX, VIW, C1DB, CBR, ZIP, DCB, CBZ, DB, TXT, CSV, PDF and JPG files.

The CDB Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CDB converter.
