About CCR files

The .CCR file extension primarily represents a ClassIn online classroom course recording. These files encapsulate video streams, audio, and interactive whiteboard sessions using a compressed structure based on the standard ZIP architecture. Another prominent use is the Continuity of Care Record (CCR), an XML-based patient health data standard developed by ASTM International and formerly popularized by Microsoft HealthVault. In specialized environments, .CCR can also function as a software license file for Frilo Software or a waveform cursor coordinate file for Graphtec data loggers.

The main disadvantage of .CCR files is their rigid dependence on proprietary software ecosystems. ClassIn recordings are closed formats; they cannot be played in standard media players like VLC or web browsers because they require the ClassIn app to render synchronized whiteboard interactions. Health-related .CCR files pose a different problem: with platforms like HealthVault retired, patients are often left with raw XML code that is difficult for non-technical users to interpret. Standard online converters typically fail because these files encapsulate multiple proprietary streams or complex XML schemas rather than standard media.

If you have a ClassIn .CCR file, your best conversion target is a universal video format like MP4, though you usually must use a screen recording utility while playing the file inside the ClassIn app. For health records, converting the XML data to a human-readable PDF or TXT is highly recommended. Because this file format is notoriously difficult to open or convert externally, third-party support is rare. However, just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible. Since ClassIn files rely on an underlying ZIP archive and health records are text-based XML, convert.guru can inspect the file, extract the embedded raw assets, and display the internal text or media content.

Convert.Guru analyzes your CCR file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted PDF, RCC, CDR, OHSD and SOR files.

The CCR Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CCR converter.
