To convert other file formats to the "Encrypted PCB Design File" file type, you need software like Altium Designer or a similar tool.
A .CCE file primarily stores encrypted printed circuit board (PCB) design data. It uses an underlying XML structure but applies strong encryption to protect intellectual property. Electrical engineers use these files in professional design tools like Cadence and Altium Designer to securely transfer schematic routing, component placement, and board layers.
Depending on the source, a .CCE file might instead be a Calendar Creator Event file used by legacy Broderbund software. Other rare uses include structural resistance checks from CYPECAD, character creation templates for CryENGINE, compressed chess engines for Casio ClassPad, or bridge bidding convention cards for Bridge Base Online.
The main disadvantage of the .CCE format is its heavily restricted, proprietary nature. Because PCB design files are encrypted, you typically need a costly software subscription to open or modify them. Standard text editors cannot parse the protected XML data. Similarly, calendar .CCE files are locked to outdated, unsupported software, making it impossible to sync your schedule directly with modern applications or web browsers.
To make this data usable, users must convert these files. For PCB designs, the standard conversion targets are universal manufacturing files like .GERBER for fabrication or PDF for visual team review. For legacy calendar events, you should aim to convert to an ICS or CSV file.
Because this file format is heavily encrypted or relies on undocumented legacy structures, standard online converters often fail. Usually, only the original software can properly decrypt, read, or export the data.
