A .LDP file is primarily a PCB Layer Pairs Export generated by Altium Designer. It contains critical routing information that defines the relationship between drill layers on a printed circuit board. Alternatively, the .LDP extension is frequently applied to hidden or locked image files (which are actually renamed JPG or PNG files) created by mobile privacy apps like Locker for Whats Chat App. It is also used for temporary video metadata by the LDPlayer Android emulator or as a compressed parameter archive by Lenze Automation Designer.
The main problem with .LDP files is their extreme fragmentation and lack of universal support. Opening an Altium layer pair file requires an expensive, proprietary Electronic Design Automation (EDA) software subscription. For PCB documentation, converting the text-based layer mapping to PDF or CSV is the best practice for archiving and sharing with manufacturing teams who do not own CAD licenses.
