About CBI files
The .CBI file extension is most commonly associated with the Italian Corporate Banking Interbank (CBI) standard. It is a structured text or XML-based data file used by Italian financial institutions to transmit bank statements, transaction reports, and payment dispositions to corporate clients. Businesses typically import these files directly into ERP systems like SAP or Microsoft Dynamics for automated account reconciliation. Additionally, .CBI files serve secondary roles as compressed 3D texture files used by PVRTexTool, as local cache files for CodeTwo Exchange Sync, and as configuration backups for Schenck Process DISOMAT weighing terminals.
Users frequently need to convert .CBI banking files because they are explicitly designed for machine-to-machine transfer, not human reading. Opening a raw financial .CBI file in a standard text editor reveals complex, proprietary data strings that are frustrating to interpret. Converting these files to CSV, XLSX, or PDF is highly recommended, as it allows accountants to review transactions cleanly in Microsoft Excel without maintaining a $50/month subscription to specialized banking software. For the texture variant, converting to standard image formats like PNG or JPG is mandatory if you want to view the graphics in web browsers or edit them in Adobe Photoshop.
However, this file format is notoriously difficult to open or convert. The banking variant relies on highly localized Italian financial data schemas, while the texture and cache variants are closed, proprietary binary files. Because of these strict internal structures, generic online converters usually fail to process it. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects an embedded format - such as the standard ZIP archive hiding inside DISOMAT backups - viewing or extraction may still be entirely possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your CBI file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The CBI Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CBI converter.
