A .c6 file is a proprietary experiment container generated by the BD Accuri C6 flow cytometer. It encapsulates the entire workspace, including instrument settings, sample lists, and the raw event data collected during cell analysis. While convenient for storage within the BD ecosystem, this format presents significant hurdles for researchers. It is effectively a "black box" that requires the specific BD Accuri C6 Software (or the older CFlow sampler) to open properly. Users often struggle with version incompatibility, the inability to open these files on personal laptops without the licensed software, and the difficulty of importing the data directly into third-party analysis tools like FlowJo.
To overcome these limitations, the primary conversion goal is usually extracting the raw standard data. For advanced analysis, you should convert or extract the contents to FCS (Flow Cytometry Standard) format. For statistical reporting, data should be exported to CSV for use in Microsoft Excel. For archiving or presentation, converting the workspace view to PDF is recommended. Since the .c6 file is technically a ZIP container, specialized tools or simple extraction techniques are often required to liberate the data.
