About BRZ files
.BRZ files are digital brain archive files created by TheBrain, a specialized knowledge management and mind-mapping software. These files act as portable backups or export packages containing a user's entire network of "Thoughts," including text notes, web links, and internal file attachments. Typically, you need the official desktop application to import, open, and navigate the structured data within these archives.
The main disadvantage of the .BRZ format is its heavily proprietary nature. Because the software uses a closed relational database to link thoughts together, you cannot simply open a .BRZ file in a standard text editor or web browser. If your software trial expires or you do not maintain an active subscription, accessing your mapped knowledge becomes highly restrictive, creating an annoying vendor lock-in scenario. Standard online converters completely fail to process these files because they cannot reconstruct the complex visual mind map without the native rendering engine.
Fortunately, there is a practical workaround. Under the hood, a .BRZ file is fundamentally a standard ZIP container. By converting or renaming the target format to ZIP, you can bypass the software to extract your original file attachments, raw text notes, and embedded documents (like PDF, JPG, or DOCX files). While extracting the file means the visual "web" of connections will be lost, your underlying data is safely rescued.
Opening the relational database directly is notoriously difficult due to the specialized XML/JSON structures used internally. Just drag and drop your file into convert.guru to identify the format, view its internal structure, and extract the underlying contents whenever possible. Even if standard conversion fails on the relational map itself, our analysis detects the supported embedded formats inside the archive, meaning viewing or extracting the actual attachments is still possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your BRZ file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The BRZ Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our BRZ converter.
