About BRX files

The .BRX extension is a classic example of a filename shared by completely unrelated technical ecosystems, creating significant confusion for users trying to open one.

Most commonly (approx. 60%), a BRX file is a Bluebeam Revu Stamp file. These are essentially packages used to apply consistent markups (like "APPROVED" or signatures) across engineering and architectural PDF workflows. While critical for construction document control, the format is proprietary to the Bluebeam ecosystem. Users without a paid license often find themselves locked out of viewing these assets. Under the hood, however, these are often just renamed ZIP containers holding XML data or embedded PDF content. By treating the file as an archive, you can often extract the source imagery or vector data without needing the full software suite.

Alternatively, if you are working with CAD, a BRX file might be a BricsCAD Runtime Extension. These are compiled application plugins (Dynamic Link Libraries) written in C++, functioning similarly to AutoCAD's ARX files. Because these are executable binary code, they cannot be "converted" to readable text or images - they must be loaded directly into BricsCAD. Other rarer variants include Android firmware update packages and legacy BREW mobile application resources, both of which are system-level files generally unsuitable for standard conversion.

Convert.Guru analyzes your BRX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted BR25, BCX, BTX and BXP files.

The BRX Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our BRX converter.
