About BKI files

A .bki file is a device driver backup file created by DriverBackup! 2, an open-source utility used to save Windows system drivers. These files store hardware metadata, paths, registry keys, and the actual driver components (like INF, SYS, and DLL files) necessary to restore hardware functionality after a system wipe.

However, the .bki format has significant disadvantages. It is a closed, proprietary archive. You cannot browse the contents natively in Windows File Explorer or standard archive managers. Because the original software is old, users frequently face compatibility issues on modern operating systems and are unable to access their saved drivers.

To safely access your hardware drivers, we recommend converting .bki files to ZIP archives. This allows you to manually extract the raw driver files for installation via the Windows Device Manager. Alternatively, converting the internal metadata to TXT or XML helps you read the hardware list without installing the original program.

This file format is difficult to open or convert because it relies on specific NET serialization. Often only the original software can properly read or export the data. However, just drag and drop your file to convert.guru to identify the format, view it, and convert it if supported. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, extracting the drivers or viewing the text is still possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your BKI file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted RBC, LBF and QDF-BACKUP files.
