About BKC files

A .BKC file primarily functions as a backup catalog or database. It is most commonly associated with Collectorz.com Book Collector (storing local book inventory backups) and Backup4all by Softland (acting as a tracking catalog for file versions). It is also utilized as a data acquisition project file by Brüel & Kjær for their BK Connect and LMS Test.Lab software.

The main disadvantage of the .BKC format is its heavily proprietary and closed nature. These files are not meant to be opened directly by end-users. You cannot open a .BKC file in a standard web browser, text editor, or generic database manager. For book collections, this means your data is locked behind a proprietary ecosystem, often requiring an active subscription to access or export properly. For backup catalogs, the file is entirely useless without the accompanying backup archives.

Users often attempt to convert .BKC files to standard formats like CSV, XML, or ZIP to regain access to their data and break free from vendor lock-in. However, standard online converters fail to process .BKC files because they lack the highly specific parsing logic required to read these closed database schemas.

Drag and drop your .BKC file into convert.guru to see what it is and convert it if supported. While direct conversion of closed binary databases is challenging, our tool can securely identify the file's exact origin, inspect its hex contents, and extract readable text or underlying data structures. If our analysis detects standard embedded tables, viewing or partial conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your BKC file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted FBF, LBF and BACKUP files.

The BKC Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our BKC converter.
