About BDL files

A .BDL file is primarily a bundle or archive file used to group multiple data files together into a single package. The most common uses include game engine assets (like audio for the Codemasters EGO Engine or car data for Assetto Corsa), firmware update bundles for HP Printers, and CAD model assemblies in PTC Creo. The main disadvantage of the .BDL format is its highly fragmented and proprietary nature. Because multiple companies use the exact same file extension for completely different types of data, a .BDL file from an HP printer cannot be opened by a game engine or a CAD program. These files are typically closed archives, meaning you cannot easily browse their contents with standard operating system tools. They often contain proprietary compiled binary data that is useless outside its native software. Converting a .BDL file depends entirely on its origin. CAD bundles can sometimes be extracted to standard .ZIP files or exported as .STEP or .IGES 3D models. Game bundles often need specialized community extraction tools to convert internal audio to .WAV or .MP3, or textures to .PNG. Firmware files are not meant for conversion at all. This file format is exceptionally difficult to open or convert because standard online converters cannot guess the internal structure. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. We can identify the file format, inspect the binary data, and show text or internal content. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your BDL file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted BLD, WAV, BANK, ZIP, PKG, EXE, AUP3, PDF, ASPX, DTL, DRW and PTD files.

The BDL Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our BDL converter.
