Convert a file to BDD
To convert other file formats to the "Proprietary Binary Data File" file type, you need software like BOND Home or a similar tool.
About BDD files
The .BDD file extension primarily serves two distinct purposes: it is either a Binary Data Dump used for firmware updates by BOND Home smart devices, or a proprietary Genealogy database file created by French desktop software like Ancestrologie and Généatique. In rare cases, it can also act as a Sound Radiation Data File used by the legacy CARA (Computer Aided Room Acoustics) application.
Dealing with .BDD files is often frustrating due to their proprietary nature. If you are dealing with a firmware file, it is a compiled binary format; it cannot be opened manually, analyzed in standard text editors, or extracted without specialized reverse-engineering tools. For genealogy researchers, the .BDD format effectively traps your family tree data in localized desktop applications. You cannot upload a .BDD file directly to major platforms like Ancestry.com or MyHeritage, and the format is highly susceptible to data loss if the original software becomes unsupported or obsolete.
To ensure your data survives, conversion is strictly required. For archiving or sharing genealogy data, you must convert your .BDD database into .GED (GEDCOM), the universal standard for family history. For developers attempting to analyze smart home firmware, converting the binary hex data into readable TXT or extracting it into standard archives (BIN or ZIP) is the best approach. Drag and drop your file to analyze and convert it - free, online, and without installing software.
Convert.Guru analyzes your BDD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert BDD file to MP3, WAV, AAC, FLAC, OGG, WMA, M4A, AIFF, OPUS, ALAC, APE or WV, you can use BOND Home or similar software from the "Firmware Update & Genealogy Database" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

The BDD Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our BDD converter.
