About BD files
The .bd file extension serves multiple distinct functions in enterprise and engineering environments, creating significant ambiguity for users. Most frequently, it represents a print spool or temporary data file generated by legacy ERP systems like Baan (now Infor LN) or SAP. These files are typically proprietary "dumps" of printer data, making them unreadable by standard text editors and impossible to open without the original ERP environment. Users often encounter these files when recovering data from old backups, finding they cannot access critical transaction logs or reports.
Another common variation is a SQLite version 3 database file or Datadog metrics file. While these contain structured relational data, raw access requires SQL knowledge and specific database browsers; opening them in Notepad results in garbled binary noise. In hardware engineering, .bd refers to Xilinx Vivado Block Designs. These are actually JSON-formatted text files describing FPGA hierarchies.
Best Conversion Targets:
For ERP/Spool Files: Convert to PDF to preserve the layout of the original report for archiving, or TXT to extract raw data for migration.
For Databases (SQLite): Convert tables to CSV or Excel (.XLSX) for immediate analysis in spreadsheet software.
For Vivado Designs: Convert the underlying JSON to PDF documentation or standard XML for version control.
For Embroidery: Convert proprietary Brother designs to standardized DST or PES for cross-machine compatibility.
Convert.Guru analyzes your BD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert BD file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use Infor LN or similar software from the "ERP Print Spooling" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to BD, try Infor LN or another comparable tool in the "ERP Print Spooling" category.
The BD Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our BD converter.
