To convert other file formats to the "Multi-purpose Proprietary Data" file type, you need software like Buildsoft Cubit or a similar tool.
About BBX files
The .BBX file extension is shared by several completely different, often proprietary, software applications. Its most common uses include Buildsoft Cubit construction estimating project files, Biblatex bibliography style definitions for LaTeX, automotive tuning data for EFILive, and flight data logs for drones. It is also used as an item definition or bounding box file in the game RF Online.
To properly open and manipulate these files, you typically need the original software that created them, such as Buildsoft Cubit, EFILive, or a LaTeX editor. Because the extension is highly fragmented across different industries - ranging from automotive calibration to academic typesetting - there is no single program that can open every .BBX file.
Users often need to convert .BBX files to extract data for reporting, backup, or sharing with clients who do not own the expensive, specialized software. The primary disadvantage of the .BBX format is its proprietary nature. For instance, a Cubit project cannot be natively opened in Excel, and EFILive tuning data is heavily locked down to prevent unauthorized vehicle modifications.
If you have a Buildsoft Cubit .BBX file, it is actually a compressed ZIP archive under the hood. You can often convert or rename it to ZIP and extract the internal XML and image files. If it is a Biblatex style file, you can safely convert it to TXT or open it in any standard text editor. For drone blackbox logs or automotive data, conversion to CSV usually requires exporting directly from the official software.
This file format is exceptionally difficult to convert using generic online tools because the internal structure completely depends on which software generated it. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format (like a ZIP archive or plain text), viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your BBX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert BBX file to JPG, PDF, PNG, GIF, BMP, TIFF, TIF, WEBP, ICO, CUR, PSD or PSB, you can use Buildsoft Cubit or similar software from the "Proprietary Software Data Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

The BBX Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our BBX converter.
