About LSR files

Most .LSR files are Apple TV Layered Images, a specialized graphic format developed by Apple to power the 3D parallax effects on tvOS user interfaces. Internally, an LSR file is simply a ZIP archive containing a content.json manifest and a folder of individual PNG layers (Foreground, Middle, Background). While this structure allows icons to shimmer and shift in response to remote control inputs, it poses significant usability challenges outside the Apple ecosystem. Standard image viewers like Adobe Photoshop or web browsers cannot render the composite effect or even open the file, leaving users with an inaccessible asset. To use these graphics for marketing, web display, or archiving, it is best to convert them to flattened PNG or JPG images. For developers needing to inspect the layer structure without Xcode, converting or renaming the extension to ZIP allows for immediate extraction of the component parts. Less commonly, an LSR file may be a video recording metadata file from a LaSAT satellite receiver or a chromatography report from Shimadzu LabSolutions, both of which require proprietary software or conversion to open formats like MP4 or PDF.

Convert.Guru analyzes your LSR file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted PNG, QCM, 11, DEL and MP4 files.

The LSR Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our LSR converter.
