About AXS files

An .AXS file primarily stores structural analysis models created by AxisVM, a civil engineering application developed by Inter-CAD. These files contain complex geometric grids, load parameters, and finite element analysis data used heavily by structural engineers. Alternatively, an .AXS file can be an Axel Stream file, which holds 3D room layouts and furniture configurations for planning software like IKEA Home Planner, driven by Configura AB. Less frequently, the extension stores source code for AMX NetLinx control systems, sprite animations for the legacy Valve GoldSrc game engine, or aerosol monitor data logs from devices like the TSI SidePak AM520.

The massive disadvantage of the .AXS format is its deeply proprietary structure. Files generated by AxisVM or Configura are heavily locked down. You cannot open an AxisVM structural model in standard 3D software like Blender or an IKEA room plan in SketchUp without specialized, native export tools. These files often demand expensive software licenses or force you to hunt down discontinued legacy programs just to view the contents. Furthermore, .AXS files are completely unsupported by web browsers and default operating system viewers.

When you need to share these designs with clients or other contractors, you must convert the .AXS file. For structural layouts and CAD interoperability, target formats like DXF, IFC, or OBJ are ideal, though specific material load data is usually lost in translation. For basic planning files, exporting to a standard PDF or JPG provides the most reliable 2D visual reference.

Because the .AXS format is a closed ecosystem, standard online converters will fail to process it. Only the original authoring software has the algorithms to properly read, render, or export the complex embedded 3D data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your AXS file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted ASX, AXE, VTP, ECG, OSD, PHP, SLP and RON files.

FAQ

If you want to convert AXS file to PHP, SLP, RON, MP4, AVI, MOV, WMV, FLV, WEBM, MKV, M4V or 3GP, you can use AxisVM or similar software from the "Structural Analysis & 3D Modeling" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

To convert MTS, MOV, RMVB, DIVX, RM, H264, TS, WMV, VOB, MP4, XVID or AVI files to AXS, try AxisVM or another comparable tool in the "Structural Analysis & 3D Modeling" category.

The AXS Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our AXS converter.
