The .atk file extension is primarily used for two completely different purposes: as a proprietary Attached Document within Sage business software, or as a Software Activation Token generated by Wibu-Systems CodeMeter or Avocent appliances.
You typically open a Sage .atk file using a Sage ERP or accounting platform where the file functions as a database attachment. Conversely, the CodeMeter .atk file is an XML-based license container processed by the CodeMeter Control Center to activate purchased software.
Both formats are highly restrictive and frustrating for end users. A Sage .atk file locks your business attachments (like scanned invoices or receipts) inside a closed ecosystem, making it impossible to share with clients or external vendors. CodeMeter token files are strictly bound to their activation sequence and completely useless outside of it.
