To convert other file formats to the "Business Data" file type, you need software like Sage 50 or a similar tool.
The .atk extension is a multi-purpose container format primarily associated with Sage business software and Wibu-Systems licensing tools.
In Sage 50 (formerly Peachtree) and related accounting suites, the software allows users to "attach" external files (like PDF invoices, XLSX spreadsheets, or JPG receipts) to specific transactions. When these attachments are archived or backed up, the system may reference or encapsulate them using the .atk extension.
The Problem: Users often find these files in backup directories and cannot open them because the operating system does not recognize the extension. The file is often just the original document (e.g., a PDF) renamed or slightly wrapped.
The Solution:
This file type acts as an activation token for Wibu-Systems CodeMeter or Vertiv Avocent appliances. These are XML-based encoded files used to authorize software licenses or hardware usage. They are not meant for human editing. Modifying them will break the license signature.
Conversion Target: You generally do not convert these. However, because they are XML-based, you can view the raw license data by opening them in a text editor like Notepad++.
