Convert SCU to another file type
To convert SCU scenes to another format, you need Led-Player or other Data software.
Convert a file to SCU
To convert other file formats to the "LED Controller & Lighting Data" file type, you need software like Led-Player or a similar tool.
About SCU files
The .SCU file format primarily functions as an LED player scene file for Visual Productions controllers, or as an LED Matrix file in LED Matrix Studio. It saves custom lighting sequences, matrix frame data, and display patterns for LED hardware. Secondarily, the .SCU extension is used for XML-based Summarization Content Unit files by Document Understanding Conferences (DUC) for natural language processing datasets, or as legacy ColoRIX Bitmap Images developed by RIX Softworks.
You can open lighting-based .SCU files using the specific controller software they were created in, such as LED Matrix Studio. The XML-based DUC files can be inspected and edited using any standard code editor like Notepad++. Legacy ColoRIX image files require specialized retroactive image viewers like XnView to render properly.
The main disadvantage of .SCU files is that the lighting and matrix variants are highly proprietary. You cannot open them on a standard web browser or share them easily with clients who do not have the specialized LED controller software installed. Users often want to convert them to preview the light shows, but standard online converters usually fail because the LED scene data relies on specific hardware configurations and pin mappings, not visual pixels.
Converting an XML .SCU file to TXT or CSV extracts the raw data for easier spreadsheet viewing. Converting a legacy ColoRIX image to PNG or JPG makes the graphic universally viewable on modern devices. For LED lighting scenes, actual format conversion is rarely possible outside the original software's export options, which may only allow proprietary backups.
Because the hardware-focused .SCU file is often a closed, proprietary format, it is extremely difficult to open or convert externally. Often, only the original LED matrix software can properly read or export the sequence data. However, just drag and drop your file to convert.guru to identify the exact format version, inspect the file, and show text or internal XML content. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion to a standard format may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your SCU file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert SCU file to SVG, AI, EPS, PDF, JPG, CDR, WMF, EMF, SWF, FLA, XFL or SKETCH, you can use Led-Player or similar software from the "LED Scene and Matrix Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert AFPUB, EPS, FIG, VSD, SKETCH, VDX, AFPHOTO, PDF, AFDESIGN, SVG, VSDX or AI files to SCU, try Led-Player or another comparable tool in the "LED Scene and Matrix Storage" category.
The SCU Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our SCU converter.
