About D83 files
A .d83 file is a standard data exchange format used in the German construction industry, specifically representing a GAEB 90 Request for Tender (Angebotsaufforderung). These files contain a detailed Bill of Quantities (BoQ) that architects or project managers send to construction companies to solicit price bids.
While essential for the bidding process, .d83 files are based on a legacy ASCII text structure that is difficult for modern users to manage without specialized tools. They cannot be natively opened in standard office suites like Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets, making it challenging for contractors to calculate costs or print tenders without purchasing expensive AVA (Tendering, Awarding, and Billing) software. Furthermore, character encoding issues often arise with German umlauts when moving between systems.
For practical use, contractors typically need to convert .d83 files to XLSX (Excel) to perform calculations and fill in prices. Once priced, the data is often converted to .d84 (Offer) to be sent back. For archiving or simple viewing, converting to PDF is recommended. To ensure compatibility with modern BIM workflows, users may also upgrade these files to the newer GAEB XML format (file.x83).
Convert.Guru analyzes your D83 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted X83, TST, FMA, TABLE and D82 files.
