A .ARK file is most commonly a game asset container or a saved game file. It is used by game engines like the Coco-Solution framework or Rocksteady Studios to bundle textures, audio, and scripts. It is also famously used by ARK: Survival Evolved to store player progression and world data.
These files are typically opened via specific game engines or community-built modding tools. Depending on the software, the underlying format might actually be a standard ZIP archive or an SQLite database.
Users often need to open these files to extract 3D models, rip audio tracks, or edit their multiplayer save states. The major disadvantage is that the .ARK format is heavily fragmented. Because multiple different developers use the exact same extension for entirely different internal structures, generic software cannot read them. They are often massive, completely proprietary, and lack public documentation.

If the file is an SQLite save game, you might convert it to SQL or CSV to edit database entries.
