A .AMV file is a proprietary video format developed by Actions Semiconductor specifically for low-cost Chinese portable media players (often misleadingly marketed as "MP4 players" or "S1 MP3 players").

Instead, they require videos to be converted into this raw, uncompressed .AMV format, which trades huge file sizes for minimal playback CPU usage. Practical constraints include extremely low resolutions (commonly 128x128, 160x120, or 320x240), low frame rates (10-16 fps), and poor audio quality (ADPCM).
