Most commonly, an .alx file is an Ericsson Library Exchange file used by Ericsson software, specifically the Alex browser or Network Manager. These files are internally formatted as standard ZIP archives containing library data and telecommunications documentation. A secondary, historically significant use is as a BlackBerry Application Loader file. This is an XML-based file used by the legacy BlackBerry Desktop Software to install .cod applications onto older mobile devices.
