About ALX files
The .ALX extension represents a fork in the road depending on your industry. Most commonly (over 80% of cases), it is an Ericsson Library Exchange file used by the Active Library Explorer (ALEX) system within Ericsson network environments. These are technically ZIP containers disguised with a proprietary extension, housing technical documentation, catalogs, and library indexes. The main drawback is that standard operating systems do not recognize the format, leaving critical network documentation inaccessible without the specific enterprise viewer.
Alternatively, in the context of legacy mobile devices, an .ALX file is a BlackBerry Application Loader XML file. These are simple text files that instructed the now-obsolete BlackBerry Desktop Software on how to install applications onto a device. They do not contain the executable code (which resides in COD files) but serve as the manifest.
Conversion Recommendations:
- For BlackBerry Files: Convert to XML or TXT to view the installation scripts and metadata in any text editor.
- For ActiveX: In rare legacy web scenarios, this may be an HTML Layout Control file; convert to modern web standards like HTML5/CSS as these are no longer supported by browsers.
Convert.Guru analyzes your ALX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted COD, XLSX, IMS2, DOI and TLS files.
The ALX Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ALX converter.
