About ABU1 files
The .ABU1 file format is a proprietary Android application backup archive generated exclusively by the ASUS App Backup utility. These files are primarily created on older ASUS ZenFone and ZenPad devices to snapshot installed applications, user preferences, and local app data (such as SQLite databases and XML settings). The primary disadvantage of the .ABU1 format is its closed, proprietary nature. It is strictly locked to the ASUS ecosystem and the ZenUI framework, meaning you cannot natively open, view, or restore these backups on a PC or a non-ASUS Android device. Files can easily exceed several gigabytes, making them cumbersome, and they become functionally useless if you upgrade to a smartphone from a different manufacturer. Because the file structure utilizes non-standard headers and device-specific packaging, standard online converters and archive managers fail to process them. Users typically need to convert .ABU1 files to standard archive formats like ZIP or TAR to extract the underlying APK files or raw user data. This file format is notoriously difficult to open or convert because only the original ASUS software can reliably interpret the data and handle any proprietary compression or encryption.
