The .411 file extension is primarily associated with Sony Mavica (Magnetic Video Camera) digital cameras, specifically models from the late 1990s that saved images to standard 3.5-inch floppy disks. These files are thumbnail images (typically 64x48 pixels) generated alongside the full-resolution JPG photos. They contain raw YCbCr image data used by the camera's LCD screen to display index previews. Users often encounter these files when recovering data from old floppies; if the main JPEG files are corrupted or deleted, the .411 file may be the only surviving record of the image, albeit in very low resolution.
In a completely different context, a .411 file may represent a BIOS update or firmware file for hardware manufacturers like ASUS. In these cases, the extension ".411" is not a fixed format identifier but a version number (e.g., BIOS Build 411). These files are binary system data and should not be converted for viewing. Instead, they often need to be renamed to a standard extension (like CAP or ROM) to be recognized by flashing utilities.
