About A00 files
The .A00 file is predominantly a multi-volume archive part created by ALZip, a file compression and archiving utility developed by ESTsoft. It is used when a single large archive is split into smaller, sequential pieces to bypass strict file size limits on email attachments, older file systems, or portable storage drives.
Usually, you need the original ALZip software to open and assemble these files. While a few third-party extraction tools attempt to support ALZip files, compatibility is often unreliable due to the proprietary nature of the format.
The main disadvantage of the .A00 format is its strict dependency on other files. An .A00 file cannot be extracted or converted on its own. It requires the master ALZ file and all subsequent volumes (such as A01, A02) to be located in the exact same directory. Furthermore, the format is entirely proprietary and closed. Standard operating systems like Windows and macOS do not support it natively, forcing users to hunt down and install legacy or region-specific software just to access their data.
Users typically want to convert .A00 archives into open, universally supported formats like ZIP or 7Z. Doing this ensures long-term access without specialized software. To achieve this, the original archive must first be successfully extracted, and then the raw files re-compressed into the new target format.
Because an .A00 file is just a fragmented chunk of a larger dataset, it is inherently difficult to process directly. Often, only the original software can properly map the file headers and stitch the volumes together. If the file is actually one of the rarer standalone formats - like an American Heritage Dictionary data file or a BOGE compressor log - our analysis might still enable you to view or convert the underlying text and data.
Convert.Guru analyzes your A00 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert A00 file to ZIP, RAR, 7Z, TAR, GZ, BZ2, XZ, LZMA, CAB, ACE, ARJ or LHA, you can use ALZip or similar software from the "Split Archive Volume" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert XXE, 7Z, Z, PAK, LHA, DEB, UUE, TAR, LZH, ZIP, PKG or RAR files to A00, try ALZip or another comparable tool in the "Split Archive Volume" category.
The A00 Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our A00 converter.
