About A00 files

The .a00 extension primarily identifies a split archive volume created by ALZip, a compression utility by ESTsoft. These files are not standalone archives; they are fragments (typically the second part, following a ALZ master file) of a larger compressed dataset split into smaller chunks for easier emailing or storage. Users often encounter a critical difficulty: you cannot open a .a00 file in isolation. It requires the complete set of volumes (e.g., archive.alz, archive.a00, archive.a01) to be present in the same directory. Furthermore, the underlying ALZ algorithm is proprietary, meaning standard tools like Windows Explorer, macOS Archive Utility, or generic ZIP openers cannot read it. To make the data accessible or shareable, the archive must be reassembled and extracted using compatible software like Bandizip or ALZip, and then converted (repacked) into a universally compatible format like ZIP, 7Z, or PDF for archiving.

Convert.Guru analyzes your A00 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted A000, A02, A03, A01, ZIP, PDF, ALZ and ZOO files.

The A00 Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our A00 converter.
