Convert 3DT to another file type
To convert your 3DT file to another format, you need RealityCapture or other 3D software.
Convert a file to 3DT
To convert other file formats to the "Augmented Reality Data" file type, you need software like RealityCapture or a similar tool.
About 3DT files
The .3dt extension serves two distinct, incompatible purposes, often leading to confusion. In modern workflows, it is primarily a Vuforia Area Target or 3D database generated by software like RealityCapture. These files act as containers (often ZIP-compressed) holding spatial mapping data, meshes, and textures required for Augmented Reality (AR) applications. They are strictly designed for the PTC Vuforia Engine and are not standard 3D models you can simply import into Blender or Unity. This proprietary lock-in makes them useless for general editing or web display without conversion.
Alternatively, a .3dt file may be a legacy 3D Concept Map created by 3D Topicscape. These are "mind maps" saved in a 3D environment. The software is largely obsolete, making these files digital fossils that are difficult to access.
Recommendation:
For AR/3D Professionals: If you need the geometry from a Vuforia .3dt file, the goal is to extract the underlying mesh to OBJ, FBX, or GLB formats. This allows for cleaning, optimization, or use in other game engines.
For Archivists: If you have an old Topicscape file, convert it to a flat PDF or PNG image immediately to preserve the information before the software becomes completely inoperable.
Convert.Guru analyzes your 3DT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert 3DT file to OBJ, FBX, DAE, 3DS, MAX, BLEND, MA, MB, C4D, STL, PLY or WRL, you can use RealityCapture or similar software from the "AR Spatial Target Database" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DWG, DAE, X3D, IGES, WRL, JT, SKP, 3DS, 3DM, OBJ, STEP or FBX files to 3DT, try RealityCapture or another comparable tool in the "AR Spatial Target Database" category.
The 3DT Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our 3DT converter.
