About 3DR files

The .3DR extension is a classic example of a "filename collision," used by at least three distinct software ecosystems, creating significant confusion for users trying to open them. Most commonly, it acts as a container for 3DMark benchmark results created by UL Solutions (formerly Futuremark). These files often serve as proprietary wrappers (sometimes simply renamed ZIP archives) containing XML data and system specs. Users frequently struggle to open these without the exact version of the benchmark software installed, leading to the need for conversion to standard archive or text formats.

However, a highly active user segment encounters .3DR files as 3D scene captures generated by 3D Ripper DX, a tool used to "rip" geometry and textures from DirectX games. These files are useless on their own; they are exclusively designed to be imported into Autodesk 3ds Max via a specific plugin. Modders and game artists often need to convert these .3DR captures into universal 3D formats like OBJ or FBX to edit them in Blender or Maya.

Less frequently, the file may be a triangulation model from Datamine Studio, used in geology and mining. These are highly specialized proprietary binary files. For general access, users typically need to export them to CAD-friendly formats like DXF or DWG using the original host software. Whether you are archiving benchmark scores or modding game assets, identifying the source software is the critical first step before conversion.

Convert.Guru analyzes your 3DR file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted 3DMARK-RESULT, OBJ, AFPK and RESOURCE files.

FAQ

If you want to convert 3DR file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use 3DMark or similar software from the "Benchmark Results & 3D Models" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to 3DR, try 3DMark or another comparable tool in the "Benchmark Results & 3D Models" category.

The 3DR Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our 3DR converter.
