About 3DB files

The .3DB file extension is primarily used for 3D Game Models and specialized 3D meshes. It is a heavily fragmented format utilized by distinct game engines and CAD applications. For example, it stores 3D VMesh data for the classic game Freelancer, vehicle models for the Prism3D engine, and military simulations in Command: Modern Operations. Beyond gaming, it is used by Technodigit 3DReshaper for point clouds and Cadenas PARTsolutions for CAD libraries. Occasionally, it is used as an alternate extension for SQLite version 3 databases. The main problem with .3DB files is their proprietary and undocumented nature. A .3DB file from Freelancer cannot be opened by 3DReshaper, and neither can be natively imported into standard 3D software like Blender. The format locks your 3D geometry or database tables into a specific ecosystem. Users usually need to convert 3D .3DB files to standard formats like OBJ, FBX, or STL to edit the geometry. Database variants should be converted to CSV or SQL. Be aware that extracting 3D game models often loses rigging, animations, or texture mappings. Because these formats are closed, standard online converters often fail to process them. Often, only the original game engine or community-built modding tools can properly read or export the data. We inspect the file signature to determine whether it is an SQLite database or a proprietary game asset, showing you internal text and structure to help you find the right workaround.

Convert.Guru analyzes your 3DB file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted V3DB, 3MF, ZTL and PLY files.

The 3DB Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our 3DB converter.
