About 2BP files
A .2bp file is a legacy raster graphic format known as a Pocket PC Bitmap, historically associated with Microsoft Windows CE devices and development environments like Borland C++. These files utilize a rudimentary 2-bit color depth, limiting the image to just 4 distinct colors or grayscale shades - a necessity for the low-resolution, monochrome screens of early Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs).
Because the .2bp format is tailored to obsolete hardware, modern operating systems like Windows 11 or macOS simply cannot render them natively. Users typically encounter these files when digging through old device backups or extracting assets from legacy mobile applications. The format is effectively a "dead" standard; it lacks alpha transparency, supports no compression, and is incompatible with web browsers. To view or preserve these images, you must convert them. We recommend converting to PNG to maintain the crisp, pixel-perfect edges of the original 2-bit graphic without increasing file size. For editing in modern tools like Adobe Photoshop, converting to BMP or TIFF is often the safest path.

The 2BP Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our 2BP converter.
