About 1SC files
The .1SC file is a proprietary scientific image format used by Bio-Rad systems, specifically their Quantity One and Image Lab software. These files store high-resolution, uncompressed scans of gel electrophoresis experiments. Typically, these files are opened and analyzed using Bio-Rad Image Lab. The .1SC format is a closed, proprietary file type that natively prevents users from opening it with standard web browsers, default OS image viewers, or conventional design tools. This is often a source of frustration when scientists need to share their experimental results in research publications, presentations, or with peers outside their immediate laboratory environment. Converting .1SC to standard formats like .TIFF (for lossless, publication-ready quality), .PNG, or .JPG is highly recommended for broad accessibility. However, converting to 8-bit formats like .JPG will result in a loss of the deep 16-bit dynamic range that is essential for precise scientific band quantification. Standard online converters frequently fail to process this format because it tightly intertwines raw pixel data with proprietary laboratory metadata. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded image format within the proprietary wrapper, viewing or extraction may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your 1SC file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert 1SC file to JPG, PDF, PNG, GIF, BMP, TIFF, TIF, WEBP, ICO, CUR, PSD or PSB, you can use Bio-Rad Image Lab or similar software from the "Scientific Gel Image Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert RAW, PNG, AI, NEF, PSB, DNG, SVG, GIF, EPS, JPG, ARW or PDF files to 1SC, try Bio-Rad Image Lab or another comparable tool in the "Scientific Gel Image Storage" category.
The 1SC Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our 1SC converter.
