About ZTD files
The .ztd file extension is primarily associated with the original Zoo Tycoon PC game developed by Blue Fang Games. These files are not true proprietary formats but are simply renamed ZIP archives containing game assets such as animal animations (ANI), textures, sounds (WAV), and configuration scripts (AI).
Users typically encounter this file when attempting to install mods or customize game parameters (e.g., changing fence strength or animal behavior). The primary difficulty is that Windows treats .ztd as an unknown file type, preventing users from browsing its contents. While the file cannot be "converted" to a document format like PDF or DOCX, it can be instantly converted to a standard ZIP archive by renaming the extension. Once opened, the internal assets can be converted individually: internal BMP images can be converted to JPG or PNG, and WAV audio can be converted to MP3.
A minority of .ztd files (approx. 9%) may be associated with MotoGP games by Milestone S.r.l.. Unlike the Zoo Tycoon variant, these may be encrypted proprietary archives requiring specific unpacking scripts (BMS) rather than a simple rename.
Convert.Guru analyzes your ZTD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted ZST, Z2F, KPF and PVZ files.
The ZTD Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ZTD converter.
