To convert other file formats to the "Compressed CAD Project Package" file type, you need software like PTC Creo View or a similar tool.
About ZPI files
A .ZPI file is primarily a Creo View project package used by PTC Creo View. These files package 3D CAD models, 2D drawings, and product structures into a single compressed container for visualization and design review. Under the hood, a .ZPI is a standard ZIP archive containing XML metadata and proprietary lightweight geometry files.
Users often need to convert or extract .ZPI files because they are locked into a closed ecosystem. Opening them natively requires a heavy, enterprise-level PTC software installation, which creates major friction for external collaborators or suppliers who lack a license. The proprietary nature of the internal files means you cannot easily import a .ZPI into standard 3D software like Blender or AutoCAD.
The best and most realistic conversion target is standard ZIP. By extracting the archive, users can manually retrieve embedded documents, BOMs (Bills of Materials), or generic CAD formats if the original author included them.
Because .ZPI is a closed, proprietary format designed for one specific enterprise viewer, standard online CAD converters fail to process it. They do not know how to read the complex XML assembly instructions linking the internal shapes. If our analysis detects standard supported files inside the archive, viewing or conversion is still possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your ZPI file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert ZPI file to ZIP, RAR, 7Z, TAR, GZ, BZ2, XZ, LZMA, CAB, ACE, ARJ or LHA, you can use PTC Creo View or similar software from the "CAD Project Visualization Package" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert XXE, 7Z, Z, PAK, LHA, DEB, UUE, TAR, LZH, ZIP, PKG or RAR files to ZPI, try PTC Creo View or another comparable tool in the "CAD Project Visualization Package" category.
The ZPI Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ZPI converter.
