About ZMP files
The .ZMP extension acts as a container for two distinct, incompatible ecosystems, creating significant confusion for users trying to open them. Most commonly (approx. 37%), it is a project file generated by Zeiss PiWeb, a quality data management suite used in industrial metrology. These files store measurement plans, CAD model references, and statistical quality data. The primary friction here is proprietary lock-in: without a licensed installation of PiWeb, the data is inaccessible to engineers or managers who simply need to view a report. However, because many modern Zeiss files utilize ZIP compression internally, you can sometimes access the raw XML or binary contents by renaming the extension to ZIP and extracting it - though converting the raw data to a usable XLSX or PDF often requires specific parsing tools.
Alternatively, a .ZMP file may be a "quarantined" email attachment created by ZoneAlarm Mailsafe. In this scenario, the security software renames potentially dangerous executables (like EXE or BAT) to .ZMP to prevent accidental execution. Users often receive these valid files from colleagues but cannot open them because the operating system does not recognize the extension. Here, "conversion" is often a simple matter of verifying the source is safe and renaming the file back to its original extension. Less common uses include test data from LNTsoft TestPro or 3D surface maps from Zemetrics.
Convert.Guru analyzes your ZMP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert ZMP file to INI, CFG, CONF, CONFIG, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, ENV, PROPERTIES or RC, you can use Zeiss PiWeb or similar software from the "Measurement Data Project" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert ZSHRC, CONF, RCFILE, GITCONFIG, RC, PLIST, BASHRC, CONFIG, PROFILE, INI, PREFS or CFG files to ZMP, try Zeiss PiWeb or another comparable tool in the "Measurement Data Project" category.
The ZMP Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ZMP converter.
