About ZHP files
The .zhp extension represents a specific niche of compressed data files, primarily used in engineering, plotting, and specialized reporting workflows. Most commonly, a .zhp file is a Compressed Plot File or CAD Drawing Archive generated by software such as Zuken E3.series, Nemetschek Zeus, or HP plotter drivers. These files often act as a ZIP-like wrapper containing HPGL (Hewlett-Packard Graphics Language) commands or high-resolution TIFF images intended for large-format printing.
The primary friction users encounter with .zhp files is their opacity. Because they are designed for machine-to-machine communication (sending a job to a plotter) rather than human viewing, they cannot be opened by standard operating system tools or web browsers. Users often inherit these files from legacy engineering archives and find themselves locked out of the schematic or diagram inside. Furthermore, conflicting formats exist: a .zhp file could alternatively be a system report from Ellucian Colleague or an XML-based testimonial file from Haufe.
To make these files usable, conversion is essential. For engineering drawings and plot files, converting to PDF is the best practice for archiving and sharing, as it attempts to preserve the vector scalability of the original plot data. For quick visual verification, converting to PNG or JPG renders the plot as a standard image. If the file is a text-based report (Ellucian/Haufe), converting to TXT or DOCX allows for editing and data extraction.
Convert.Guru analyzes your ZHP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert ZHP file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use Zuken E3.series or similar software from the "Compressed CAD Plot File" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to ZHP, try Zuken E3.series or another comparable tool in the "Compressed CAD Plot File" category.
The ZHP Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ZHP converter.
