About YRM files
The .yrm file is a custom multiplayer map or mission file designed for Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 - Yuri's Revenge. These files contain terrain data, building placements, unit starting locations, and custom game rules embedded as text. Users typically interact with these files when downloading custom maps from community forums to play in the game. The major disadvantage of the .yrm format is its proprietary nature. It is heavily locked into the aging game engine originally built by Westwood Studios. Standard online tools cannot render or convert these files because the map geometry and scripting are highly specific to the game. Users often want to convert a .yrm file into a PNG or JPG to share a preview of the map layout online. Standard image converters will fail because this is not an image file; it is a complex level data container. To properly export an image of the map, you must use community-built software like FinalAlert 2. This file format is exceptionally difficult to open or convert without the original game engine. Drag and drop your file into convert.guru to identify the format and inspect the file. While direct conversion to an image requires the original map editor, our analysis can often extract the readable INI text rules, revealing triggers and custom settings embedded inside.
Convert.Guru analyzes your YRM file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert YRM file to MAP, TMP, TEMP, CACHE, LOG, BAK, OLD, NEW, PART, DOWNLOAD, CRDOWNLOAD or LOCK, you can use FinalAlert 2 or similar software from the "Game Map Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DEVICE, CACHE, SOCK, SYMLINK, PID, MOUNT, FIFO, LOG, PIPE, TMP, JUNCTION or TEMP files to YRM, try FinalAlert 2 or another comparable tool in the "Game Map Storage" category.
The YRM Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our YRM converter.
