The .YLD file primarily serves as a 3D game character model layout used by the Rockstar Advanced Game Engine (RAGE) for high-budget titles like Red Dead Redemption 2. Alternatively, it functions as an agricultural yield data file for Ag Leader Technology farm management systems, a ZWCAD plotter file, or a semiconductor yield test file. These formats share a common disadvantage: they are highly proprietary, heavily compressed, or locked. Game model .YLD files are designed strictly for engine use and actively prevent unauthorized modifications. Agricultural and semiconductor .YLD files store raw, undocumented data streams that cannot be read by standard spreadsheet tools.
Users typically need to convert these files to standard formats like OBJ or FBX for 3D modeling, or CSV and XLSX for data analysis. However, standard online converters fail to process .YLD files because the binary structures lack public documentation. You almost always need specialized community modding tools (like OpenIV) or expensive proprietary software (like Ag Leader SMS) to extract the data properly.
