About XYZV files

The .xyzv file is a Celestia Sampled Trajectory File used by the open-source 3D space simulator Celestia. It requires Celestia to accurately render the movement of planets, comets, or spacecraft. Because it is a highly specialized data format, standard text editors or data analysis tools often cannot interpret the specific formatting natively. Users face challenges when they want to plot this trajectory data in external programs like Microsoft Excel or MATLAB. Furthermore, the proprietary structuring means standard online converters fail to process it. For external data analysis, you typically need to convert .xyzv to CSV, TXT, or JSON. Converting this data strips away Celestia's 3D rendering context but preserves the raw mathematical trajectory coordinates. Because this format is deeply integrated into Celestia's engine, it is difficult to convert without specialized scripts. Often only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying text or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your XYZV file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The XYZV Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our XYZV converter.
