Convert XYD to another file type
To convert your XYD file to another format, you need WinXPOW or other Data software.
Convert a file to XYD
To convert other file formats to the "Scientific Data File" file type, you need software like WinXPOW or a similar tool.
About XYD files
The .XYD format is primarily associated with STOE WinXPOW, a software suite used for analyzing X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD) data. These files contain raw diffractogram data, specifically plotting the 2-theta angle (X-axis) against intensity (Y-axis), which allows scientists to identify crystalline phases in a sample.
The main issue for researchers is that .XYD files are often locked within the proprietary WinXPOW environment. You cannot simply double-click them to open in Microsoft Excel or standard plotting tools like OriginLab. Without the specific STOE drivers or software, the data is inaccessible binary or formatted text, making it difficult to share with collaborators who don't possess a STOE license.
For most users, the goal is conversion. To analyze the peaks or publish the data, you need to convert the .XYD file into a standard ASCII format like XY, DAT, or CSV.
A secondary, less common use of the .XYD extension is within 12d Model software (by 12d Solutions), where it stores simple XY coordinate data for civil engineering and surveying projects. In this case, users typically want to convert the coordinates into DXF for CAD work or XLSX for spreadsheet analysis.
Convert.Guru analyzes your XYD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert XYD file to , you can use WinXPOW or similar software from the "X-ray Diffraction Data" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert files to XYD, try WinXPOW or another comparable tool in the "X-ray Diffraction Data" category.
The XYD Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our XYD converter.
