About HLD files

The .hld extension most commonly refers to a High-Load Indentation data file generated by Hysitron (now Bruker) nanoindentation instruments. These files store raw mechanical property measurements - such as hardness and elastic modulus - captured during material testing. Because they are often saved in a proprietary binary format or specialized text structure used by Hysitron FBControls or TriboScan software, researchers frequently face difficulties opening them without specific lab workstations. The primary goal for users is converting this raw experimental data into CSV or XLSX for analysis in Microsoft Excel or MATLAB.

Alternatively, an .hld file may be a label design template created with HERMA Label Designer. These files contain layout information for printing office stickers, shipping labels, and binders. Users often struggle to open old .hld templates on modern systems if the original HERMA software is not installed, creating a need to convert the design to a standard PDF or JPG for universal printing. Less common uses include Tebis CNC tool holder profiles and Bosch packaging audit trails.

Convert.Guru analyzes your HLD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted XYD, WLS, HE5 and HRC files.

The HLD Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our HLD converter.
