About HLD files

The .HLD file extension is heavily fragmented and serves multiple unrelated industries. Primarily, it functions as a High-load indentation test data file generated by Hysitron FBControls software (now part of Bruker) for materials science testing. Alternatively, it is widely used as a label design template file by HERMA Label Designer, a CNC tool holder profile in Tebis CAD/CAM software, or a batch management audit trail by Bosch Packaging Technology.

Because these files are highly specific to enterprise and laboratory environments, they present massive disadvantages for everyday users. They are proprietary, closed formats. An .HLD file created by a Hysitron nanoscale tester is unreadable in HERMA Label Designer. Users often lack the original, expensive laboratory software or the specific industrial manufacturing tools needed to open them. Furthermore, standard web browsers and document viewers cannot read them natively. The HERMA label variations use the Microsoft Compound File Binary Format (CFBF), but extracting the actual print layout requires the original application.

When dealing with scientific .HLD files, users typically need to convert them to CSV or TXT to perform independent data analysis in tools like Microsoft Excel or Python. For HERMA templates or Bosch audit trails, exporting to PDF is the most practical target for sharing and archiving.

Because these are closed, proprietary formats tied to specialized hardware, standard online converters fail to process them. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. However, you can rely on convert.guru to inspect the file. Just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible. Our tools analyze the internal structure to determine if it is a materials science dataset, a label template, or a CNC profile. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or partial conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your HLD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted XYD, WLS, HE5 and HRC files.

FAQ

If you want to convert HLD file to HRC, CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT or DB, you can use Hysitron FBControls or similar software from the "Scientific Data & Template Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to HLD, try Hysitron FBControls or another comparable tool in the "Scientific Data & Template Storage" category.

The HLD Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our HLD converter.
