About XLE files

A .xle file is primarily a Solinst Levelogger Data File, a specialized XML-based format used to store groundwater and surface water monitoring data. These files are generated by Solinst data loggers (such as the Levelogger 5) and contain time-stamped readings for water level, temperature, and conductivity.

While .xle files are technically XML, simply opening them in a text editor displays raw code rather than a readable spreadsheet. Users frequently run into problems when trying to share this data with clients or import it into analysis tools like Microsoft Excel, as the proprietary schema requires specific mapping.

A secondary use of the extension is for SympaTec WINDOX particle analysis files, used to store size and shape distribution data from laser diffraction instruments.

The XLE Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our XLE converter.
