About XFD files

The .XFD file extension represents a legacy XML Form Data file, primarily associated with two discontinued enterprise software ecosystems: JetForm FormFlow 99 (acquired by Adobe) and PureEdge Solutions (acquired by IBM and rebranded as Lotus Forms).

Unlike modern web forms, an .XFD file often contains both the raw data and the layout logic required to render a legally binding business document, such as a military form or government application.

Common User Friction:
Users typically encounter these files when accessing old archives or military records (like the U.S. Army's DA forms). Because the format is obsolete, modern web browsers (Chrome, Edge) and standard PDF readers cannot open them. Attempting to open them in a text editor reveals complex XML code rather than the visual document.

Best Conversion Targets:

Convert.Guru analyzes your XFD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted XFDL, XFDX, XDF, DXF, PDF, TXT, VXF, DDB and DRL files.

The XFD Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our XFD converter.
