About XDS files
The .XDS file format is primarily used for game data serialization (often via the MabStream library) and as a 3D model or texture container in racing games like Forza Horizon 5 and Test Drive Unlimited 2. It can also function as a generic XML data file, a Siemens Drive ES parameter file, or a project file for niche applications like DS Game Maker. The major disadvantage of the .XDS format is its highly fragmented and proprietary nature. A file from Forza uses completely different binary encoding than an industrial file from Siemens. These files are typically compiled, closed-source, and cannot be natively read by standard 3D modeling software like Blender. You cannot open them directly in a web browser, and they often require a dedicated game engine or complex community-built modding scripts to decode. If you are modifying games, you usually want to convert .XDS 3D models to standard formats like OBJ, FBX, or DDS for textures. However, standard online converters fail because they lack the specific decryption logic for these proprietary formats. Because .XDS is often a closed format, it is extremely difficult to open or convert without the original software. Often only the original software can properly read or export the data.
