About XCU files
The .XCU file is an XML-based registry configuration update file used primarily by Apache OpenOffice and LibreOffice to manage internal software settings, user profiles, and extensions. The disadvantage of this format is that it is strictly an application-specific configuration file, not a standard text document. It is highly proprietary to the OpenOffice ecosystem and is not intended for human consumption without an understanding of XML schemas. Standard online document converters fail to process it because it lacks standard formatting tags like paragraphs or headers, causing immediate conversion errors. Because the file is structured entirely in XML, the best conversion targets are code-friendly formats like XML, TXT, or JSON. Converting to these formats strips away application associations but preserves the raw text, making it easier for developers to read or edit. This file format is difficult to open or convert correctly because only the original software can properly parse the internal configuration instructions to apply updates. Standard file viewers will just display walls of raw code. Just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible. convert.guru can still identify the file format, inspect the file, and show text or internal content. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your XCU file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert XCU file to INI, CFG, CONF, CONFIG, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, ENV, PROPERTIES or RC, you can use Apache OpenOffice or similar software from the "Configuration Settings Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert ZSHRC, CONF, RCFILE, GITCONFIG, RC, PLIST, BASHRC, CONFIG, PROFILE, INI, PREFS or CFG files to XCU, try Apache OpenOffice or another comparable tool in the "Configuration Settings Storage" category.
The XCU Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our XCU converter.
