About XC files

The .XC file format serves two distinct primary purposes. Most commonly, it is a UTF-8 encoded text file used as a configuration script for the eXtended Visualization Mod (XVM) in the game World of Tanks. In other instances, it acts as a proprietary game data archive container used by developers like FromSoftware and Level-5 to store 3D models, textures, and compiled game assets. It is also occasionally found as a network configuration file for Rockwell Automation RSNetWorx.

Users often need to convert or extract .XC files to access the underlying data. For modders, the XVM configuration files can be converted to standard JSON or TXT formats to ensure compatibility with standard web formatting tools and linters. For gamers dealing with FromSoftware archives, the challenge is much greater. These archival files easily exceed several gigabytes and are locked inside proprietary compression algorithms. Standard online converters will fail to process them because the compression dictionaries and header structures are closed, proprietary, and undocumented.

This proprietary nature makes game archive .XC files exceptionally difficult to open or convert. Often, only the original game engine or dedicated, community-built reverse-engineering tools can properly read or export the embedded data. Our platform inspects the internal file signatures to determine whether your .XC file is a simple text-based XVM configuration or a complex binary game archive. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your XC file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted CSV, JSON, TXT, XML, M3U, XLSX, PDF, CWL, NTD and TKN files.

The XC Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our XC converter.
