About XC files

The .XC file extension is primarily utilized as a configuration file for the eXtended Visualization Mod (XVM), a popular interface modification for World of Tanks. These files are structured using a specific subset of JSON (JavaScript Object Notation), allowing players to define granular settings for damage logs, minimap features, and vehicle markers. Typically, a master xvm.xc file references multiple sub-config files (like turret.xc or userInfo.xc) to keep the modification modular.

Users often have trouble because operating systems do not natively recognize the .XC extension as text-based. Without manual association, these files cannot be opened, leading users to believe they are proprietary binary files. Additionally, the strict syntax requirements mean that editing them without syntax highlighting - or trying to merge them - often results in game crashes. Converting .XC to TXT or standard JSON allows for safe viewing, syntax validation in web browsers, and easy sharing on forums.

In other contexts, an .XC file may act as a proprietary compressed archive for FromSoftware games (such as the Dark Souls series) or a network configuration file for Rockwell Automation RSNetWorx. These variations are incompatible with text editors and typically require extraction to ZIP or raw asset formats for access.

Convert.Guru analyzes your XC file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted CSV, JSON, TXT, XML, M3U, XLSX, PDF, CWL, NTD and TKN files.

The XC Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our XC converter.
