The .TKN file format serves multiple, highly specific purposes across different software and hardware systems. Its most common use is as a Tender document download token for the Taiwan e-Procurement System. In this context, it acts as a digital security pass stored in an XML structure. Another major use case is the NetLinx compiled token file, created by AMX by Harman for automation systems. Developers also encounter .TKN files as tokenized source code for SoftVelocity Clarion or as programmable profiles for Token2 hardware token programmers, which are built on a standard ZIP architecture.
The main disadvantage of the .TKN format is its strict, proprietary nature. A .TKN file is context-dependent. A token generated for a specific procurement portal is useless outside of that exact website. Similarly, compiled NetLinx tokens are binary data that cannot be easily reverse-engineered or edited. You cannot open these files in standard word processors or web browsers. Standard online converters fail to process them because they do not map cleanly to standard formats like PDF or DOCX.
