About WZD files

The .WZD file format is overwhelmingly encountered today as an encrypted data file, hijacked by the Wicked Ransomware strain. Alternatively, it is used as a secure data container by the Department of Defense's Encryption Wizard, or as an obsolete database for the 1990s Sharp Wizard electronic organizer. Victims of ransomware typically need specialized decryption tools, while legacy users rely on outdated hardware to manage these files. The primary disadvantage of the .WZD format is total data lockout. If your files were encrypted by malware, they are held hostage behind military-grade algorithms. If it is a legacy database, it suffers from severe proprietary lock-in, rendering it incompatible with modern web browsers and operating systems. Users desperately want to convert these files back into their original PDF, JPG, or DOCX formats, or extract their old contacts into a universal CSV or TXT file. However, standard online converters fail completely when processing .WZD files because they attempt to read ciphertext or proprietary binary data as if it were standard media. The format is designed to be mathematically unreadable without authorization. Often, only the original hardware or a dedicated decryption key can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying legacy format or embedded content, viewing or extracting the data may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your WZD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The WZD Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our WZD converter.
