Convert WXD to another file type
To convert WXD spectroscopy files to another format, you need WITec Project or other Data software.
Convert a file to WXD
To convert other file formats to the "Spectroscopy Data File" file type, you need software like WITec Project or a similar tool.
About WXD files
A .WXD file primarily stores Raman spectroscopy data generated by WITec Project or legacy Renishaw WiRE software. It contains complex spectral readings, calibration details, and spatial mapping information used in materials science and chemistry to identify molecular structures.
The biggest disadvantage of the .WXD format is that it is a proprietary, closed binary file. Users cannot simply open these files in Microsoft Excel or OriginLab. Without an active, expensive software license, your experimental data is effectively locked in a black box. Additionally, high-resolution spatial mapping often results in file sizes exceeding 100MB, making them cumbersome to handle and share with colleagues.
To make the data useful for publication or Python/MATLAB analysis, you need to convert .WXD to CSV or TXT. If you only need to share visual results, converting to PDF or PNG is recommended. Note that converting to plain text will lose proprietary spatial metadata but will preserve the core intensity and wavenumber shifts.
Because of its closed nature, standard converters fail to read .WXD files. Often, only the original WITec or Renishaw software can properly parse the internal structures. If our analysis detects a supported embedded format, viewing or text extraction may still be possible.
In rare cases, a .WXD extension is used as a Wave eXchange Data file for legacy game audio, such as in Audiokinetic Wwise or the classic game Homeworld.
Convert.Guru analyzes your WXD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert WXD file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use WITec Project or similar software from the "Raman Spectroscopy Data Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to WXD, try WITec Project or another comparable tool in the "Raman Spectroscopy Data Storage" category.
The WXD Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our WXD converter.
