About WWF files
A .WWF file is primarily a modified PDF document designed to be unprintable. Created as a campaign by the World Wide Fund for Nature, the format uses standard PDF architecture but enforces Digital Rights Management (DRM) restrictions to block the print function. A secondary use for .WWF files is as a Wafer Works Format file, storing die coordinates and defect data for semiconductor manufacturing.
You can open WWF documents using standard PDF viewers like Adobe Acrobat Reader or Foxit PDF Reader, though the print option will remain disabled. Wafer map files require specialized fab software or proprietary manufacturing execution systems.
The main disadvantage of the WWF document format is the artificial limitation placed on printing. This restriction is highly inconvenient for users who require hard copies for legal, accessibility, or archival reasons. Furthermore, the original WWF creation software is obsolete, making the format an annoying relic. Wafer map files are closed, proprietary data containers, making them useless outside of specific cleanroom environments.
To bypass document restrictions, users must convert the .WWF file to a standard PDF, DOCX, or JPG. Converting effectively strips the print restrictions but retains text, images, and layout formatting. Wafer map data is usually exported to CSV or TXT for analysis, though this requires the original fab software.
Because the document variant is essentially a locked PDF, and the wafer map is a proprietary binary or text file, standard online converters often fail to process them. Just drag and drop your file onto convert.guru to identify the format, view the internal text or binary headers, and convert it when supported. If our analysis detects the underlying PDF structure, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your WWF file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert WWF file to INDD, QXP, PUB, PMD, PM6, PM7, PM8, PM9, PM10, PM11, OMP or P65, you can use Adobe Acrobat Reader or similar software from the "Document Storage & Wafer Mapping" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MDI, PUB, PDP, PM4, P65, COMIC, WEBTEMPLATE, PMD, SPUB, INDD, PM5 or QXP files to WWF, try Adobe Acrobat Reader or another comparable tool in the "Document Storage & Wafer Mapping" category.
The WWF Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our WWF converter.
